CNNMoney Report on Webmasters and a Word of Caution from the World Organization of Webmasters

CNNMoney.com is reporting that the Webmaster is back and salaries are up. The online report also reflects that IT professionals with Project Management Skills is one of the hottest IT jobs in the U.S. To comment on this, I’m on the phone with Bill Cullifer, WOW Executive Director and the WhyITNow.org initiative.

Bill, can you tell us what’s changed from the slump of a few years ago?

“Brent, what’s changed is that business, industry and managers that hire Webmasters and IT Managers have an improved understanding of the skills required and the IT and Web applications that help drive their bottom line.”

That’s great Bill. Any suggestions for those looking to get jobs in this Space? ?

“Brent, my biggest concern with the surge in popularity is that the “get rich quick” training companies selling short term training options will come out of the woodwork again. I caution individuals to consider training programs that offer the incremental training to land you a job yet will lead you to defined degree level programs within IT that promote life long learning.”

Thank you Bill. We’re certainly in it for the long haul for our readers and listeners.

    >> Rich Internet and AJAX Applications reward users with? increased usability saving them time in making buying decisions and supporting their research.

    >> Service and persuasion architectures insure we meet the needs of visitors by providing paths that make their experience with your company more rewarding.

If you want to learn about the latest application mashups, visit programmableweb.com.

If you want to develop applications within a Microsoft centric framework visit ASP.Net and check out the new Silverlight, cross-browser and cross platform runtime and development tools.

Google Buys DoubleClick and Tonic Systems -Tellme launches

Eric Schmidt, CEO of Google must be stoked. After winning a bidding war with Microsoft over DoubleClick they will now retain the largest ad network for years to come, so it seems anyway. 3.1 billion was the price and 300 million in revenue expected annually. The biggest part of this deal for Google was to keep Microsoft out.

Google has also announced their acquisition of Tonic System and with some integration, will be releasing a Power Point competitor. Google has also improved their content removal tool.

In other news, Microsoft officially launched Tellme.com the free 411 service.

Apologies for not being more frequent with the news, over the last three days, I lost a motherboard, cell phone, water pump and my glasses. 8)

I’ll get Adobe Production Studio reinstalled tomorrow so we have an audio component again.
