Google’s? Sitemap Protocol is now being used by the major search engines. Now there’s finally a way to have more control over the indexing and reporting of the bots that crawl your website to index your pages. You need one of these and I’ll quickly explain how to implement your own.

First step, you have to create an xml file that validates according to the Sitemap Protocol. Freesitemapgenerator.com will create this for you. Google has some instructions for doing this too but their instructions are geared more towards programmers or SEO Professionals.
After you’ve got your file,? you’ll need to? log into your Google account, go to Webmaster Tools and tell Google where your sitemap is. Follow the instructions to get verified as the site owner.
Step three, upload your sitemap to your website and tell Google where you put it.
Only step one happens outside of Google’s Webmaster Tools.
