If you’re like me, you watch the online advertising market. Experience is always reminding that as long as the ad markets are healthy, technology spending is too. After all it’s costly to compete with companies that give their products and services away for free while their advertisers foot the bill. There is however a lot of movement in the space. Microsoft is closing or has just closed a 6 billion dollar acquisition of Aquantive. Microsoft’s largest purchase ever is an online advertising deal following Google’s purchase of Double-Click which btw, has not yet been approved by the FCC. Microsoft also recently purchased AdECN an online ad exchange. This brings up a lot of things to talk about but who cares when things seem to be working so well already?
Besides, we can talk about Facebook whose source code was partially released to the public earlier today.
Or Hotmail, whose free user base will now get 5 gigs of storage as Microsoft tries branding Hotmail back into Live mail. If you’re at all confused, it could be because the branding has been going back and forth for months.
and finally, according to a report at the CNET TV blog, after August 15th you won’t be able to view those sweet videos you purchased at Google Video. Look for a two-dollar Google Checkout credit in the mail.
