The technology disruptors are all around us. Take Real Estate for example. A new breed of real estate websites are available and the traditional real estate sales process is in play. The MLS or multiple listing service has long been the source of information for home buyers. Their listings are the standard but they’re also exclusive. Only Realtors get to post the listings and membership is a requirement for many agents and brokers.
We all know by now what happens when you try and trap information and it doesn’t look good for web 1.0 real estate companies that are leveraging the pent-up data. Zillow.com is focused on releasing the information. In this case, real estate listings. They just opened their database up for anyone that wants to post homes for sale. Their home prices and sales data are now being merged and centralized through their web 2.0 interfaces and data mashups.
Online Real Estate is turning 2.0 and anyone thinking traditionally about the sales process should? rethink their strategies.
