BILL CULLIFER: Hi, Bill Cullifer here with the WOW Technology Minute. I’m here at the World Wide Web International Conference in Banff, Canada and I’m with Adam Zarkeski, pardon me, Zakreski.

ADAM: Zakreski.

BILL: Great, from the University of Calgary. Adam participated in the WOW workshop here in Calgary. And Adam, thank you for agreeing for this interview.

ADAM: My pleasure.

BILL: I’d like to have you, ask you a couple of questions, if I could Adam. Number one, I’d like to know, as you know, WOW is setting some web professional standards for webmasters, web designers, web developers, web professionals if you will. Can you share with the audience your understanding of the importance of that, or your perspective on that?

ADAM: Sure. Personally my feeling is that computer science and computers well in general, are such a new technology that  the standards haven’t really been set that we can hold ourselves to as a professional organization, in comparison to something like medicine, law or engineering. Something like the WOW certification, it sets that bar so that we have something to hold ourselves up against, something to certify ourselves with and something to go to an employer and say, “This is what I do.” It sets us apart from the people who have studied in their backyards and their basements and just call themselves a web developer.

BILL: Excellent. Well said, thank you Adam.
