Google has officially bought YouTube. 1.65 billion seems a bit high. One thing I find interesting is the technology that makes YouTube possible. This is basically a Flash-based website. The technology that powers YouTube and Google Video is Flash. It’s not Windows Media Player. It’s not Real Networks. It’s not Quicktime. It’s an open standard that you can use right now to develop something better than YouTube.
If you’ve grown up with Flash professionally you must be proud. I am. To be clear, the dollar amount was 1.65 BILLION dollars!
It’s the most money Google has ever spent at one time. YouTube wasn’t even profitable before the deal. In fact, they basically ran the company on credit cards to get them where they are today. Sound familiar? If you’re a Flash developer you should find great inspiration in the fact that you can create the same application that just made YouTube a Web 2.0 milestone.
