Lab49 Debuts Largest RIA in Financial Services History at Adobe MAX 2009

New York, NY and London, UK, October 2, 2009 — Lab49 Consulting Limited, a technology consulting firm that builds advanced applications for the financial services industry, will be presenting the largest and most ambitious RIA in Financial Services to date at Adobe MAX 2009, the annual global Adobe conference. Lab49’s Managing Consultant Børre Wessel, and former colleague Tom Sugden from Adobe Professional Services, will discuss the development of Morgan Stanley’s new trading platform, Morgan Stanley Matrix, featuring data visualization, real-time streaming, rich-media publishing, collaboration and workflow components.

Wessel will elaborate on the practices that made Morgan Stanley Matrix possible and focus on aspects such as scalability, modularization, dependency management and performance tuning. His session entitled “Building Matrix: Scaling Flex for a Large Trading Application,” will take place at 9:00 a.m. PST on Tuesday, October 6 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

WHEN:
Tuesday, October 6, 2009
9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. PST

WHERE:
Los Angeles Convention Center
1201 South Figueroa Street, Room 512
Los Angeles, CA 90015

WHY:
Improving user experience with Web 2.0 technology is becoming a key differentiator for the sell-side to capture institutional clients. Currently, in order to access research or engage in trading activity, investors are required to download large applications from the sell-side and involve their own IT departments to install them and connect to the broker-dealer. Even once this is done, there is limited capacity for collaboration or for integrated platforms that include research and execution as well as multi-asset trading.

With the introduction of rich internet applications (RIA) such as Adobe’s Flex, investment banks are able to increase interactivity with clients through collaboration tools, such as video and chat, and do this via a zero-touch deployment mechanism. This human component of real-time web augmented with data helps investors to gain a more holistic view of the sell-side’s offerings, including trade ideas, research, prices, analytics, as well as direct access to traders. As a result, they can interact with the sell-side now as if they were sitting next to a sell-side trader.
As competition becomes fiercer, web applications will bring clients and sell-side institutions closer by facilitating knowledge transfer and collaboration rather than simple data transfer and price distribution. Institutional clients will also come to expect this level of simplicity, accessibility and convenience from all global investment banks.
